말의 해에 말귀가 더 막힌 닭통년을 위한 곡

 

 

폴 사이먼이 케네디 대통령 피살 후 그를 생각하면서 목욕탕에서 작곡한 곡이다.

 

"어이, 거기 어둠. 말이나 하자고 또 왔다.

 

 

 나 잠든 사이 환상이라는 놈이 몰래 왔다 씨를 뿌리고 갔는데 말야

 

 

그 환상이 머리속에 심어져 아직도 남아있잖아, 침묵의 소리로 말야
 

 

불안한 꿈에서 나 혼자 걸었어

 

 

자갈 깔린 좁은 거리의 가로등 불빛 아래서
추위와 안개에 칼라깃을 올릴 때

 

 

밤을 가르는 네온사인의 번뜩거림이 눈을 찌르다

 

 

그 침묵의 소리를 건들고 말았어

 

 

발가벗겨진 불빛 속에서 보았어. 만명 아니 그보다 더 많은 사람들을

 

 

걔들은 말은 하는데 들을 거리가 없고

 

서로 들어도 마음들은 콩밭에 가 있더라고

 

  

노래도 만드는데 따라 부르는 백성이 없어
그런데 감히 누구도 그 침묵의 소리를 방해하지 못해요

 

 

바보 아닌가. 암처럼 자라나고 있는 침묵의 뜻을 모른다는 거지.

 

그 ㄴ에게 도움이 될 수도 있는 내 말을 들어볼래.

 

그 ㄴ에게 다가갈 수도 있는 내 도움을 가져갈래

 

 

하지만 내 말은 소리없이 내리는 비

 

 

그냥 침묵의 우물 안에서 울리는 메아리더만ㅜㅜ

 

 

사람들은 지들이 만든 네온사인 신에게 절하고 기도하는데

 

 

그 간판 신은 네온으로 만드는 말로 계속 경고를 번쩍이고 있드먼

 

 

근데 간판에 뭐라고 써있냐면 말야

 

 

"예언자들의 말씀이 적혀 있는 곳은

 

 

지하철 벽과 노숙자들의 광장이야."

 

 

이 닭아.

 

 

또

 

 

침묵의 소리로 속닥속닥 퍼지고 있다는 거야."
